You guys, parenting is hard. There’s missed naps, fussy attitudes, and big messes to clean up–and sometimes the kids have problems too. Really, though, despite the challenges and frustrations, having kids is the best. Cleaning up throw up for the 17 millionth time in 3 days is not the best. That’s the worst. But being able to watch these little people grow and learn and interact with the world is the best.
We’ve had a few hard weeks here in the Leek house. Derek has been gone a lot of the past 4 weeks and at least one child has been sick for most of the time. It’s been challenging, but in spite of that, I find myself with very tender feelings for these sweet kiddos. They’re fun and silly and smart, and I’m thankful that Derek and I get to be their parents.
We continue to see more and more of Mercy’s personality and it’s been fun getting to know her. I don’t even know how she’s 9 months old already, because wasn’t Eli just born like last week?
This month’s updates:
Eating: I don’t think Mercy has tried a single food that she hasn’t liked. She nurses 4-5 times a day and eats three “meals” of puréed food or small bits of whatever we eat. She also learned to drink from a straw, so she’s been enjoying that.
Sleeping: We’ve gotten into a bit of a better schedule here so that naps are usually a little easier and more consistent. She still normally gets up around 5:30 in the morning to eat, which I’m not a huge fan of, but I don’t want to mess with what we’ve got going right now. I’ll give it a few more weeks. She wakes up some during the night and might cry for a couple of minutes, but I very rarely go into her room again until morning.
Other developments: She definitely says “Mama” now! It’s so cute in her sweet little voice! She can stay sitting up unassisted and standing while holding/leaning onto things. Still no crawling and no teeth though!
