October 28 marked 29 years for me and 5 months for Mercy. You can see that this update is pretty late, but it’s because we were on vacation in St. Augustine, Florida! We had the best time!
Mercy is a sweet, happy girl most of the time, and I love that we’re getting to know her more as she grows. She LOVES Elias, and I think the feeling is mutual. Watching them interact is so fun, and I hope they continue to enjoy each other as they get older.
I’ve noticed over the past few months that having two small children, especially when we’re out somewhere without Derek, seems to invite comments. Usually people are kind, commenting on how cute the kids are; or sympathetic, saying that they had kids close in age too. Sometimes people say strange things (mostly people at Walmart) and I want to (but refrain from) saying something snarky back. But generally people smile and seem like they enjoy seeing our kids.
Having little ones can be difficult, but I’m reminded often by strangers how much of a joy it is for me to spend time with these munchkins. I don’t always love all the big emotions (Elias) or getting up at night (Mercy), but it’s my joy to have these children and to be their mama.
Now with all that said, let’s get to Mercy’s 5 month update!
Eating: Girl likes to eat. With Eli we had a pretty rigid schedule for feeding, and he did great with that. With Mercy, she pretty much eats when she wants, within reason.
She also seems really interested in eating what we’re eating. She has had rice cereal a couple of times and did really well with it, so we’ll probably start doing some purées soon.
Sleeping: Like I said, Eli had a good schedule and Mercy does not. I feel like the lack of schedule in the sleep area is probably ruining her life (and mine!).
That’s overly dramatic, but I wonder if she would sleep better at night if I gave her a better nap schedule during the day. We may never find out.
Mercy usually naps a couple times a day now, but the only really set nap is right after lunchtime because that’s when Eli naps too. She’s been getting up usually twice a night still, which I’m not a fan of. She also had bronchiolitis this month and was up like every 1-2 hours then. She was so pitiful :(.
Other developments: It’s hard to remember everything that happens, even within one month. Mercy really likes putting things in her mouth, including her, and our, fingers. She’ll play with toys and pass things from one hand to the other. She sits up pretty well and can sit in the bumbo seat and umbrella stroller. We’ve heard a few noises that sound a lot like mama and dada. Mercy is starting to act like she reeeeeeally wants to crawl, but isn’t quite coordinated enough yet. Soon, little one!
Weight: 14 lbs, 11 oz (She had an appointment when she was sick. No regular appointment until 6 months.)
Clothes: 6 month, size 2 diapers
Likes: anything Eli does, raspberries on her tummy, her crinkly book or giraffe, putting things in her mouth, her play mat, baths
Dislikes: staying up late, waiting to eat, sleeping all night (haha!), getting pjs out on/getting in her sleep suit
