Half of a year?!?!?!?! What?!?!?
Our little baby isn’t really a little baby anymore!
I can’t believe how much joy Eli has brought to our lives. There’s also exhaustion and sometimes frustration, but overall–joy!
I love hanging out with this kiddo. He has such an easily-appearing smile and the giggles are the best. If I do something that makes him laugh, I have to immediately do it at least 18 more times right away and then again every day for the rest of my life. Really, it’s a compulsion.
This month’s updates:
Eating: Pretty much the same nursing schedule. Eli now eats purees too though! We started a few weeks ago, and I think he finally just got the idea of eating. [I say finally, but I know that a lot of people don’t even start purees until now anyway]. We had tried some before, but he wasn’t that interested and didn’t know to swallow what was in his mouth. Now he’s still a pretty messy eater, but he’ll open his mouth for more and grab for the spoon.
He’s doing pretty well with a sippy cup…with water in it. The kid will not drink more than a few tiny sips of milk. The good thing is that he can now be fed other foods if I have to miss a feeding.
I guess eating “real” food has messed with his tummy a little bit and digestion sometimes takes a little longer, making Eli a little fussy sometimes (understandably). His doctor says that’s okay (but his doctor isn’t the one who has to clean up the 3-day blow out 🙂 ).
Sleeping: Again, pretty much the same as last month, except that he seems to be a little bit more consistent with not needing a feeding during the night. He likes to roll around and play in the crib some before going to sleep, but normally can put himself to sleep without too much trouble. We still put him in the crib on his back, but he just very recently started sleeping on his belly, which I think is the cutest thing everrrr.
Other developments: Soooooo much rolling! He’s been able to roll both ways for a while, but now he can do it with very little effort.
Eli can sort of sit up by himself. He’s a little wobbly and will sometimes tripod with his arms in front of him, but he’s getting the hang of it. He can’t get into a seated position by himself, but he’s been trying! He also looks like he reeeeeeally wants to crawl. He’ll get on his belly and move his arms and legs around and look at you like, “Am I going yet?” Soon, little man.
No teeth yet, but I’m not really in any hurry for that to happen. We’re still experiencing the drool showers, which are especially bad in the evening, and everything goes into his mouth. If you’ve held him and he’s decided that he needs to taste you…sorry. He’s also been giving me and Derek lots of open-mouth kisses…or he just wants to eat our faces.
Other firsts: he’s been to the pool a couple of times (thanks, friends!) and liked it. He’s also been taking baths in the big tub without his baby insert. I think he likes that he can float around more.
Weight: So the doctor came into the room at his appointment and said, “He’s not as fat as he looks!” Haha. The chubby cheeks just make him look so round! He’s 18 lbs, 5 oz. (66%)
Height: 26.25″ (45%)
Head circumference: 17″ (35%…where are the other 65% of babies with such huge heads?)
Dislikes: green beans (the only food he’s tried so far and hasn’t liked, he gagged), not being able to poop, unfamiliar faces while he’s sleepy
Likes: BOUNCING!, splashing in the tub, mama and daddy, squash (I think this has been his favorite food so far), snuggling/sucking on burp cloths
Clothes: size 6, 6-9, 9 months; size 3 diapers
And now FIVE pictures ’cause I couldn’t pick just a couple:
